Comfortably nestled on the hillside in Governors Bay lies an architect’s own home, inspired by a love of tramping and doc huts. This house is an excellent example of an energy efficient home with clever, cost effective design features.

Bay Heights is a high performing house featuring thermally broken aluminium joinery, Proclima airtightness system and maximised insulation. Careful consideration has been made with the positioning of the window joinery, balancing passive solar gain in Winter, prevention of overheating in Summer and optimising the beautiful views out to Lyttelton Harbour and the surrounding Port Hills.

Relatively small in size, the floor plan is simple yet considered. High, sloping ceilings create a distinct feeling of spaciousness within the light-filled kitchen, dining and living area, while also capturing views through to the rocky outcrops of the Port Hills above through over light windows. A stand-alone fireplace on a steel hearth compliments the space, adding ample heat for the coldest of winter days.
